Rustic Date Bread

I recently spent a day at St. Augustine Beach with friends of the family. My mom’s friend, Patty, and I bonded over cooking and immediately started swapping recipes. This was an old family recipe she passed down to me. I hope you enjoy!

Rustic Date Bread

Rustic Date Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Rolled Oats
  • 1 Cup Organic Rye Flour
  • 1 Cup Organic All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 1/4 Cup Unsweetened Coconut Yogurt
  • 1/4 Cup Molasses
  • 1 Cup Date Pieces
  • Nuts for topping

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350.

Mix dry ingredients and wet ingredients in separate bowls, leaving the date pieces for last. Then combine all ingredients and mix until the dry ingredients are moistened.

Chop dates or date rolls into small, pea-sized pieces. Drop the pieces into a baggy that has a tablespoon of flour and shake until the pieces are coated. This will keep them from clumping in your bread batter!

Mix in the powdered date pieces and pour the finished batter into greased loaf-pan. Press a couple handfuls of nuts into the top-- I used slivered almonds! Let the bread batter hang out for about 20 minutes before baking.

Bake for 40-45 minutes. Let the bread cool for 10 minutes before cutting. Enjoy!
